Need a Dental Crown? Save Money by Getting It Before 2020 Ends!

The last time you saw your dentist for a checkup, they said one of your teeth needed a dental crown. You were a bit short on cash, so you put off scheduling that appointment. Plus, the tooth wasn’t bothering you. You figured you could save money by waiting until it started hurting. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Getting a dental crown now could actually save you money, especially if you’ve met your deductible and you still have insurance benefits available. Keep reading to learn why you should get a needed crown as soon as you can.

Why You Should Get a Dental Crown Before the Year Ends

If you have dental insurance, you’re entitled to a certain amount of coverage every year. This amount is known as your annual maximum, and it’s usually around $1,000. Once you’ve paid your deductible for the year, which is typically about $50, you’ll receive discounts on many services until you’ve met your annual maximum.

Unfortunately, any benefits you haven’t used during the calendar year will disappear once the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. Since only about 3% of Americans with dental insurance meet their annual maximum, that adds up to billions of dollars in lost benefits every single year. The other 97% are essentially paying their premiums and receiving nothing in return!

That’s why it’s a good idea to get any needed dental work, such as a crown, taken care of before 2020 ends.

What Happens If You Don’t Get a Dental Crown When You Need One?

Even if you don’t have dental insurance, getting a crown soon after your dentist suggests one can save you money in the long run. While crowns can be used to enhance the appearance of an imperfect tooth, they’re usually recommended when severe decay or injury compromises the structure of a tooth. By not protecting it with a crown, you run the risk of the tooth suffering further damage. Not only can this result in pain, but you might end up requiring a more complex and expensive procedure later on, such as root canal therapy or even a tooth extraction and replacement.
